Required Reading For All Web Developers

The following are things that I think are required reading for anyone developing applications or content for the web.

  1. The W3C's URI style guide - "Cool URIs don't change"
  2. Joel Spolsky's rant about character encodings, aptly entitled "The Absolute Minimum Every Software Developer Absolutely, Positively Must Know About Unicode and Character Sets"
  3. Linux kernel coding style - the style guide for the largest collaborative software development effort in the history of mankind. Required reading for programmers of all types, including those working on the web.
  4. jwz on Tabs versus Spaces
  5. Wikipedia: KISS Principle
  6. c2.com: Don't Repeat Yourself
